Living Libations Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil is not only our dreamiest, creamiest sandalwood to date; it is also the long-awaited offering of an incredible Hawaiian reforestation project that is saving endangered sandalwood trees from extinction.
Just as sandalwood is one of the most precious, widely-used, sought after oils in the world, sandalwood trees are harvested most frequently and in many cases, illegally. This illegal harvesting leads to over-cultivation, poor quality oils, and the near-extinction of these incredible trees the world over (our sandalwood from Vanuatu is ethically harvested and lovely; yet this Hawaiian sandalwood is extra special).
Our distiller has increased the population of sandalwood trees to 50 times its original numbers in the last three years alone. Each tree that is harvested for oil is chosen because it is already at the end of its life cycle. For each harvested tree, 20 new trees are planted in its place.
The woodsy, nutty, dream-cream oil offered by these ancient trees is a sacred aphrodisiac. Unlike regular sandalwood, Santalum paniculatum has distinct volcanic notes that conjure images of island mountainscapes, lapping blue waves, and thousands of acres of thriving, glistening trees.
Spectacular Hawaiian sandalwood combines 4,000 years of ancient wisdom with the generous essence of modern sustainability. The natural life cycle of each harvested tree is exuded in the beneficent extract, whose purity offers protection from infections, skin conditions, depression and grief.
This sacred oil is a secret beauty treatment of women all over the world. Hawaiian sandalwood can be used as a sensual perfume, a moisturizing all-over body oil, or a deep conditioning hair treatment that will leave thirsty locks shiny, soft and satiated.
Hawaiian sandalwood is wonderfully uplifting, grounding and centering. As the ancient Hawaiian sandalwood tree offers its last breath, its parting gift is a fragrant reminder of our own natural state: one of limitless joy and eternal happiness.
“Sandalwood’s calming, harmonizing, and balancing effect acts like deep slow waves.” ~ Suzanne Fischer-Rizzi, The Complete Aromatherapy Handbook
“Sandalwood is composed almost exclusively of the alcohol santalol (fifteen carbon atoms)… the effects of sandalwood oil are influenced more by immune-modulant properties than by antibiotic ones.” ~ Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D., Advanced Aromatherpay
“In aromatherapy, sandalwood is a valuable oil. It is a good antiseptic, having a gentle tonic effect on the nerves. It has an elevating, grounding and effect on the psyche, so is beneficial for depression, anxiety and stress-related problems. Avicenna wrote that the scent of sandalwood “heals passions of the heart and doth exhilarate.” ~ Julia Lawless, Aromatherapy and the Mind
"No other aromatic tree has played a more central role in spiritual culture, religious ceremony, perfumery, and medicine than Sandalwood. No other aromatic tree faces as uncertain a future, a future of almost insurmountably complex ecological and economic pressures. No other aromatic tree is causing as much distress and concern among those who know its value than the rapidly dwindling population of old-growth sandalwood.
And nothing would represent such a triumph of long-term environmental wisdom and sustainable forestry than sandalwood groves planted today yielding their treasured nectar eighty years from now." ~ D. Crow, Sandalwood: Fragrance of the Gods
