The mild sudsing of the shampoo comes from the combination of coco-protein and yucca root. Coco-protein is derived from the sugars, proteins and fatty acids of organic, virgin coconut oil. Coco-protein is a non-ionic saponifer that has been tested to be *free of any recognized side effects. It is not detected in human tissue or urineand is free from ethylene oxide (which can cause nitrosamine contamination) and also free from preservatives. It has excellent dermatological compatibility and also has low environmental impact as it is highly bio-degradable. Coco-protein is not related to any of the sulfates, sulfides, or other surfactants which are best avoided. The roots of the Yucca plant have been used traditionally by Native Americans as a natural body, hair, and laundry soap. Yucca root is very high in saponins, the soap making ingredient, which causes the lather in our shampoo. This special root also has emollient properties which have a soothing effect on the hair shaft. This shampoo will invite your hair to shine and your heart to sing in the shower.

Directions: Massage a small amount into wet hair. Add water as necessary to create lather. Rinse. Apply Shine On Hair Conditioner. May be diluted further to use as a Body Wash and a bubble bath.

For Babies and Children: perfectly gentle for your pure little beings’ hair and body ~ yet, you would be amazed at how truly young hair can be liberated from the modern concepts of hair care. Here is a little secret: sometimes for fun we make a bubble bath for our son Leif with the Seabuckthorn Shampoo; yet, usually we add salt and baking soda to his bathing waters to cleanse and refresh his body and spirit. His healthy locks are clean as can be and we have only washed his hair three times in his four happy years of life!

Healthy Hair Tips: Let your hair dry naturally, in the fresh air or sun. Brush your hair upside-down several times at night with a soft, natural bristle brush. Brushing with a natural bristle brush will help with gentle cleaning, exfoliating and stimulating of the scalp, and circulating of the oils from the scalp throughout the hair. For extra special hair treatments, try these options: once a week add a drop of Lymph+Tonicto the hairbrush and then brush upside down. A nourishing home spa treatment is created by parting hair and infusing scalp with Living Libations' Scalp Tonic. Another fun option is to massage Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever, or Radiant Love Butter throughout the hair and left on overnight. Make a jar of Oat straw tea and pour over freshly washed hair as a final rinse.

Can I use your shampoo with my colored hair?

Absolutely! People with colored hair have been using Seabuckthorn Shampoo with beautiful results for years. The shampoo is so gentle that many people use it as a body wash for their baby.

Similar to healthy skin, healthy hair is coated in natural oils that protect each strand and keep the hair elastic, smooth, and shiny. The scalp produces these oils in exactly the right amount to keep the hair lubricated. Synthetic hair products, even those marketed for treated and colored hair, strip away these oils, irritate the scalp, and damage hair follicles. Some of the harsh chemicals in these products, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and oleyl betaine, can cause hair color to fade fast. Instead of the full, shiny, smooth locks promised on the bottle the result is often dull, faded, and lifeless hair.

The pure ingredients in Seabuckthorn Shampoo harmonize with the scalp and hair to provide a gentle and healing clean. The botanical oils and extracts gently lift away the day's dirt without stripping the hair's oils or drying and inflaming the scalp. Here is a quick explanation of the ingredients in Seabuckthorn Shampoo:

  • The super-critical extract of Seabuckthorn berry is full of micro-nutrients and omega fatty acids that nourish the scalp which promotes healthy hair.
  • Oatstraw, nettles, coltsfoot, and horsetail are rich in proteins, nutrients, and silica, which adds resiliency to each strand and protects against breakage and split ends.
  • Calendula, clover, chamomile, and comfrey are conditioners that make the hair less prone to tangles and breakage and they also soothe the scalp.
  • Vetiver and lime oils give the hair shine. Lime is also a gentle purifier.
  • Sage, peppermint, grapefruit, and rosemary smell wonderful, and they also cleanse, heal, and stimulate the scalp.
  • Bladderwrack seaweed and Slippery elm become gelatinous when they are mixed with water. The gel holds moisture in the hair strands and this reduces fly-aways and frizz.
  • Yucca and coco-proteins lend suds to the mixture.
  • Orange wax has a fresh scent and emulsifies the ingredients.
  • Chickweed is really beautiful for colored hair. It keeps the pH of the hair between 5 and 8 so that the hair cuticles stay closed. If the hair pH is too high or if the cuticle is damaged then the hair strands will look and feel rough. A closed cuticle also promotes an even distribution and absorption of the hair dye.
  • Jojoba oil is finely textured so that it absorbs into the hair and scalp to provide needed moisture, and it is a mild cleanser when combined with herbs and essential oils.

Healthy hair sets the stage dimensional color and shiny hair. The day or night before you plan on applying color, use a super nourishing, conditioning hair mask or sleep with Shine On conditioner in your hair overnight. This will help to protect your hair from damage and pave the way for luminous color afterward. Healthy strands of hair grab on to the dye and hold color longer without fading. A few days after coloring your hair you may want to skip all hair products to give the dye ample time to set.
