THE PHARAONIC FRANKINCENSE OF EMINENCE

Resplendent Royal Hojari Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) rises from the rocky limestone slopes and misty, monsoonal sanctuaries of Oman’s Dhofar Valley. In this green oasis where coastal mountains catch the Indian Ocean's moisture, schizogenous gum oleoresin reservoirs vein the tree's inner trunk. When gently incised by master harvesters, the trunk exudes a milky emulsion that indurates over sunny days into solid, opalescent tears of sap. Royal Hojari essential oil represents the hydrodistillation of these milkiest, cardinal-quality Boswellia sacra pearls, the most sacred and sought-after grade of Frankincense on Earth.

Holding the wisdom of millennia, this supreme grade of Hojari is as coveted today as it was in the court of Queen Hatshepsut. In ancient Egypt, vast quantities of Frankincense were esteemed for chewing and spiritual purification, while the highest-quality tears of solidified sap were reserved exclusively for royal cosmetics, crushed into Kohl with charcoal for eyeliner, and calibrated into Kyphi temple incense. As an early arboriculturist with a passion for aromatic oleoresin, Pharaoh Hatshepsut organized a legendary two-year naval caravan to Punt, known as Ta Netjer, the "Land of the Gods", to retrieve an array of oleoresins and a living treasury of 31 Frankincense trees. These specimens were replanted at her architectural marvel, Djeser-Djeseru, meaning "Sublime of the Sublimes," where temple walls display detailed reliefs depicting their innovative transportation. The carvings reveal six men supporting long wooden poles to carry each tree, its earthen root mass carefully bound in woven wicker baskets while the leafy canopy of Boswellia stretches overhead.

Hydrodistilled into an exquisite essential oil, Royal Hojari yields a masterful monoterpenic profile saturated with alpha-pinene. While sharing the resinous, amberous-pine warmth of classic carterii, Royal Hojari is crowned by bright, dulcet green-lemon top notes anchored by sabinene, limonene, camphene, and beta-pinene. Trace oxygenated monoterpenes add subtle complexity that calms and fortifies. Upon inhalation, this pharaonic Frankincense clears sluggish energy with balsamic embers of elation. Whether inhaled as fragrant fumes or worn as precious perfume, Royal Hojari has long elevated the senses. In kind, its resinous nectar brings a fresh dawn of botanical balm to soothe and satiate the skin.

"Frankincense resin in most ancient cultures was also an important aromatic in perfumery, hygiene, skin care and medicine. Resins such as myrrh, galbanum, and frankincense saw widespread secular as well as sacred applications, which included extensive individual and social fragrancing… Frankincense was an important component of Kyphi, the temple incense burnt in Heliopolis every sunset to honour the setting of the sun."

The Alchemy of Royal Hojari Frankincense's Phytochemistry
The phytochemistry of Royal Hojari Frankincense represents one of the most concentrated monoterpenic profiles in the plant kingdom, defined by a peak saturation of alpha-pinene (up to 78%). Produced by Boswellia sacra trees growing in the unique microclimate of Oman's Dhofar mountains, this hyper-concentration of alpha-pinene imparts a crisp, coniferous-balsamic lift that immediately freshens the air, invigorates respiration, and purifies the skin. Accompanying this abundant alpha-pinene canopy is a bright, green-lemon monoterpene array featuring sabinene (4%), limonene (4%), camphene (2%), beta-pinene (2%), trace myrcene, alpha-thujene, and p-cymene. This citrus-accented monoterpene synergy gives Royal Hojari its distinct, sparkling top note while delivering fast-acting lipophilic support to the skin.

Trace oxygenated monoterpenes, including trans-pinocarveol, trans-verbenol, and alpha-phellandren-8-ol, provide sublime restorative depth. These specialized constituents excel at quelling the appearance of skin reactivity, soothing redness, and refining uneven texture. Underlying the light monoterpenes is a grounding touch of beta-caryophyllene, offering woody warmth and anchoring the volatile molecules for long-lasting dermal affinity. Working in synergy, Royal Hojari’s constituents purify complexions, support natural renewal, and illuminate skin radiance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes Royal Hojari tears from Oman the cardinal quality of Boswellia sacra? Royal Hojari tears represent the absolute highest tier of Boswellia sacra resin, harvested exclusively from the northern Dhofar region of Oman. In this unique geographical microclimate, coastal monsoon mists (Khareef) meet arid desert heat, causing the trees to produce large, resin pearls dense in essential oil. These "milky" tears yield an oil with crystalline clarity, a luminous green-lemon balsamic aroma, and an exceptionally high concentration of mighty monoterpenes.

What is Queen Hatshepsut’s historical connection to Frankincense and the temple of Deir el-Bahri?
Around 1493 BCE, the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut commissioned a famous two-year expedition to the Land of Punt (modern-day Horn of Africa / Southern Arabian Peninsula) to acquire pure Frankincense. Her fleet returned with heaps of raw oleoresin and 31 living Boswellia trees with protected root balls. These trees were planted in the terraces of her mortuary temple, Djeser-Djeseru ("Sublime of the Sublimes") at Deir el-Bahri, where detailed carved reliefs still commemorate this historic botanical feat.

How does Royal Hojari compare to other Frankincense species like Boswellia carterii and Boswellia frereana? While Boswellia frereana is dominated by alpha-thujene and lupeol with virtually no water-soluble gum matrix, and Boswellia carterii offers a classic woody-pine profile, Royal Hojari (Boswellia sacra) is distinguished by its super saturation of alpha-pinene (up to 78%) combined with a distinct green-lemon top note from sabinene and limonene. This makes Royal Hojari exceptionally clarifying, highly atmospheric, and supreme for skin refinement and meditative focus.

How was Royal Hojari resin utilized in ancient Egyptian cosmetics, Kohl, and Kyphi?
In ancient Egypt, top-grade Frankincense tears were finely ground into protective face powders and unguents to preserve skin against the desert sun. The charred resin was also crushed to create the legendary dark Kohl eyeliner, prized both for cosmetic beauty and for shielding eyes from solar glare and insects. Additionally, Royal Hojari was a key ingredient in Kyphi, the sacred 16-ingredient temple incense burned every evening in Heliopolis to honor the setting sun.
