A Silky Sanctuary for the Eyes and the Melatonin Supply
Lights Out, Life On: The Dual Necessity of Light + Darkness for Restful Restoration ✨
The rhythm of deep rest and cellular renewal is governed by the natural, primordial circadian cycle of light and darkness. Morning light ignites our intracellular mitochondrial melatonin, and bright, sunlit days are necessary to synthesize serotonin, foundational hormones for many cellular functions. Conversely, complete, dedicated darkness at night is essential for the production and release of melatonin, the master hormone that signals the body to rest, repair, and enter a state of restful restoration.
A daily fast from light is key to health and harmony. Our eyes, as special cones and receptors of light, are now facing an unprecedented load from LED and screen technologies that lack natural infrared and emit imperceptible flicker. To align circadian signals and ease eyestrain, a benevolent break from blue light at night is foundational to fostering restful, restorative sleep.
When we introduce even the tiniest amounts of artificial light—particularly blue light from electronics or stray light from windows—it actively suppresses melatonin production, delaying sleep onset. This disruption of deep sleep cycles and stifling of circadian alignment creates a cascade of biochemical imbalances.

The Serene Silk Sleep-Mask Solution: Safeguarding the Melatonin Supply
The simple solution for restorative rest lies in ensuring absolute darkness throughout the night, or anytime a deep rest is required. A silk sleep mask is one of the simplest yet most effective tools for this task, and is also ideal for daytime catnaps. Beyond comfort, silk is a natural temperature regulator that is gentle on the delicate skin around the eyes.
Your Wingman for Sound Sleep:
Perfect for deep, sound sleep, siestas, and snoozes. Our wing-styled silk mask is designed with luxury, comfort, and melatonin protection in mind.
Zero Pressure:
Our design highlights silk over synthetics, is free of metal and constricting elastics that can create pressure. The winged design ensures space for eyes and eyelashes. This prevents pressure on the eye globe, which can disrupt sleep and is vital for contact lens wearers or those with ocular sensitivity.
Under Wraps:
The winged edges are designed to sit securely around the nasal bridge and the temples, forming a complete seal that blocks peripheral light leakage without pressing upon the skin. This sensory surrender maximizes the natural production of melatonin, quickly signaling to the brain that it is time to transition into deep sleep.
Colors + Care:
Each mask is crafted from 100% mulberry silk and comes nestled in a protective Puffer Bag for travel and storage. The mask easily washes, ensuring your nightly cocoon remains fresh and pristine.
Color Palette:
Each somnus silky sleep mask features a dark chocolate brown side for enhanced light exclusion topped with a choice of three dreamy colours: Moontime Mauve, Galaxy Green, and Pastel Dreams Pink.

Serene Sleep-Mask FAQs
1. Why is complete darkness so essential for sleep?
The rhythm of deep rest and cellular repair is governed by the hormone melatonin. Even the tiniest amount of artificial light—especially blue light from screens or streetlights—is detected by the specialized receptors in the eyes and instantly suppresses melatonin production. Our goal is a complete "fast from light," which signals the brain to transition into the deepest, most restorative sleep cycles.
2. How does the "Wing-Style" design prevent light leakage and pressure?
The mask is simply designed with a contoured, winged shape to create a sensory deprivation seal.
Total Darkness Seal: The winged edges sit securely around the temples and the nasal bridge, effectively blocking all peripheral light leakage that traditional flat masks allow.Â
Zero Pressure: The contoured design ensures the fabric tents away from the delicate eyes and eyelashes. This prevents pressure on the eye globe, which is crucial for comfort, maximizing the quality of rest, and protecting the sensitive skin around the eyes.
3. Can I wash the silk mask?
Yes. The mask is designed for easy care. It should be gently hand-washed in cool water using a mild, natural detergent, then laid flat to dry. This practice keeps your nightly cocoon fresh and pristine.
